FIRST it takes a regular culture to find klebsiella in the vigina not just the usual vaginal cultures. If you have a mystery vaginal infection, suggest this to your doctor. In order to get this nasty infection to go away, YOU MUST treat the patient AND their sexual partner(s). Otherwise the partner will just reinfect the female patient. The standard oral antibiotic used to treat klebsiella infections is used. NOW..... as to the cause of vaginal klebsiella....9 times out of 10 it is caused from oral sex. My patient was not a smoker but her husband was,so i got a sputum sample from the husband and sure enough there it was! In her case she did not receive the oral sex she performed oral sex on her husband, so that would tend to lead one to assume kissing transfers the bacteria from mouth to mouth and from there to the sexual organ and of course male to female oral sex is a no brainer. **** PATIENTS SEXUAL PARTNER(S) MUST BE TREATED **** I hope this will help.

I'm not sure what discussion you were responding to; however, Klebsiella is not generally considered a vaginal pathogen. Klebsiella can be a urinary tract pathogen causing urinary tract infection, but presence of the organism in the vagina is likely to be contamination from the peri-urethral area. Klebsiella is one of the many organisms that is normally found in the gastrointestinal tract. There are no scientific accounts that I am aware of that supports Klebsiella as a vaginal pathogen.
