Disease or delirium?

Morgellons syndrome

There is disagreement between physicians and those who suffer from Morgellons syndrome as to its cause.

Dermatologists characterize the symptoms associated with Morgellons disease or Morgellons syndrome as delusional, while Morgellons Research Foundation describe the condition as an emerging infectious disease.

Morgellons sufferers describe the sensation of little bugs crawling all over and the shedding or sprouting of mysterious fibres from their skin. The Centers for Disease Control (CDC) has received so many calls in the past year that in June 2006 they set up a Morgellons task force to investigate whether an as yet unidentified infectious agent is the cause. Perhaps the CDC will be able to determine whether Morgellons is an infectious disease or a parnoid delusion.

Morgellons is also known as delusional parasitosis, a psychosis that causes sufferers to believe they are infected with parasites.
